YOUR BASE · CENTRAL PACIFICJacó as your base
Jacó is a Central Pacific tour base: surf schools and many meeting points sit in town, while the zipline park, chocolate experiences, and several boat departures cluster around Playa Herradura a few minutes north. Use Jacó when you want walkable booking logistics and short hops; treat Herradura as the adventure-park and marina cluster; use Playa Hermosa (south) when the listing is surf-forward for experienced riders. Carara is a short drive north on Route 34 for a wildlife morning; Manuel Antonio is a full day south—book it as a guided day with pickup rather than squeezing it beside another big outing. Confirm each tour’s pickup or meeting point on the live listing before you pay.
One beach-town base, adventures in every direction.

Where tours start — Jacó town vs Herradura
Most in-town bookings are surf lessons, short walks to beach meeting points, and operators who list “Jacó” hotels or rentals for pickup. Herradura is where several canopy/zipline, chocolate, and boat products concentrate—often a few minutes by taxi or tour van from central Jacó. Always read the listing: “Jacó area pickup” is not the same as a beach meet in Herradura. If your stay is gated or outside the named zone, ask the operator with your exact address before you pay.
Base logistics — getting here and getting around
Travelers usually reach Jacó by road from San José (SJO) the same day, or via Liberia (LIR) with a longer transfer. Once based here, many tours include hotel pickup; others meet in town or at a park entrance. You do not need a car for every booking, but a car or taxi helps for self-drive park mornings and for stays between Jacó, Herradura, and Playa Hermosa. Green-season tip: book outdoor tours for the morning, when Pacific rain more often arrives later. Confirm current road and weather notes closer to travel.
Day trips that use Jacó as the hub
From this base, the main day trips include wildlife mornings toward Carara / Tárcoles, boat or island days that board near Herradura, and the classic full-day Manuel Antonio park trip south. Keep big adventure days from stacking on the same calendar when heat, pickup windows, and park hours matter.
